Often my attempts to create strong community bonds separate themselves from my artistic pursuits. I start this blog to access the community that is my work. I am simultaneously a performer, an organizer, a writer, a lover, a smiler. Last year, I let the poet inside of me speak alongside the singer, and recently I got around to gathering those words together in a happy ‘lil note on my phone. I am proud of how many I’ve written so far! The first poem I share with you is one that intersects my personal and professional life through love and birth; one of my closest friends named their first child Lyric. It inspired me to write a poem about him. This is that poem.

Lyric

Like a melody, slowly weaving

the notes of my life

have always led to you

the bridge to my chorus

has always been you

the lyrics to my song

the words to my unspoken

and now

you’re here
